This week we turn the spotlight on the Oak Ridge Playhouse in Oak Ridge, TN. We spend some time with Reggie Law, the Managing Artistic Director of the organization. Reggie tells us about the history of the group,
its current season, venue, special programs, and future plans.

Judy Cullen from the Washington State Community Theatre Association, stops by to share her personal opinions on our suggestions for the theatre revolution, including an epiphany of her own.

We also have other feedback sent to us. We have an audio recording sent to us by Elizabeth Turnquist, who posted a blog entry a few months ago on a similar subject. We also received an email from Mike Clark with ShowbizRadio.net. He shares some of his views on the points we raised.

Episode 3.17: A Theatre Revolution Begins

This week we suspend our normal format in order to have a spirited discussion on how to turn around the decline in local theatre and make it a growing and viable in the 21st century....since we are eight years into it already!

We discuss the four following radical recommendations:

ELIMINATE the term "community theatre"

Flip the new play development process from a top-down (Broadway down) model to a grass roots model with Broadway being the "pinnacle" of the process.

Theatre companies with their own venue need to split the organization. One group should solely run the venue, while the other group solely produces the shows.

Create a new, flexible, season pass, that can be used for any shows the bearer wants....at any participating theatre.

Joining us in the discussion are members of our live studio audience in Second Life.

This episode is intended to START the conversation.
This week we turn the spotlight on the Sumter Little Theatre in Sumter, South Carolina. We have a delightful conversation with Katie Damron, the Executive Director Emeritus of the organization. Katie tells us about the wonderful history of the group, its current season, special programs, and future plans.

We continue our "Broadway News (in five minutes or
less)" segment, have some more community theatre news, and some of the most outrageous "Editors
Gone Wild" headlines, including five Chris made up on his own about Daniel Radcliffe (aka Harry Potter) appearing nude on Broadway in "Equus".

*** WARNING: No clean rating this week BECAUSE of the headlines. Recommend you skip the headlines if children are present ****

This week we turn the spotlight on the brand new Strand Theatre Company in Baltimore, Maryland. Jayme Kilburn, Artistic Director of the
organization, fills us in on the mission of the group, its beginnings, and future plans.

We also discuss this week whether people are dressing down too much for theatre. Casual seems to be king. Is that good or bad. Weigh in with your opinions as well by emailing us at podcast@NeighborhoodStage.com

This
weekâs show of the week segment, furnished to us by Mike Clark from ShowBizRadio.net, comes from an interview Mike did with Paul Rubenstein, a director for the Sterling Playmakers in Sterling, Virginia. Paul tell us about the show âTom Jonesâ.

We continue our "Broadway News (in five minutes or
less)" segment, have some more community theatre news, our "Editors
Gone Wild" headline segment.
